Could be another Justin scandal brewing. It’s a bit more complicated than the black face or throwing his women colleagues under the bus, but we will try to ‘mansplain’ it. Let’s start with the fact that Canada’s ambassador to China, Dominic Barton, who is wildly wealthy and was appointed by Justin, is, zut alors, also a close friend of Justin’s. No surprise there. Justin likes to surround himself with rich people like the WE Kielburger boys. Rich, but slimy.
How did Dominic Barton make his money? He was CEO of a prestigious consulting company called McKinsey. About a month ago, the NY Times broke a story about this company and Barton. It appears that while Barton was at the helm, McKinsey advised Purdue Pharma on how to ramp up OxyContin sales and recommended the drugmaker pay its distributors a rebate for every overdose the painkiller caused.
In case you didn’t know, OxyContin is highly addictive. The plot thickens.
Documents revealed that McKinsey had advised the Sackler family, owners of Purdue Pharma, to “turbocharge” OxyContin sales during a time when the government and pharmaceutical industry was aware that hundreds of thousands of Americans had died from opioid overdoses. It gets worse.
McKinsey’s presentation, again under the leadership of Barton our Chinese Ambassador, predicted that 2,484 CVS customers would either have an opioid-related overdose or develop an opioid use disorder in 2019. The presentation, which suggested a rebate of $14,810 per overdose, estimated Purdue Pharma would pay CVS $36.8 million in 2019 under that plan.
One more thing about China and Barton: Last February, just as the Coronovirus pandemic was being discovered, this is what Barton said about the Chinese:
“China values unity and the needs of society at large, rather than freedom of individual choice … we just have to understand that.”
And that dear friends, is communism, given the stamp of approval by none other than our Ambassdor to China appointed by your Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. We don’t think you have to wonder much longer why the two Michaels, who have been incarcerated in a Chinese prison for two years, are still there.
The question is whether the Canadian press will pick this up or give Justin yet another pass. Whatever happens know one thing: Our prime minister is over his head in everything he does and our ambassador to China is useless. Perfect storm for Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig to languish in prison in China for who knows how much longer. This is nothing short of criminal.
New Yorkers have had it up to here and are showing Cuomo exactly what they think of him. Yesterday there was a massive snowstorm in New York and yet, sidewalks were bustling with people eating outside because Cuomo banned indoor dining.
One restaurant owner said it the way it should be said to every leader out there who shuts down businesses while still collecting their own salaries:
‘Cuomo is banning indoor dining, but looks the other way when about 200 people are crammed inside in airplane cabins 25,000 times a day. Ridiculous and humiliating to have someone like him decide on our State.’
Then Di Blasio chimed in. As NY had a massive snowstorm yesterday, he ordered restaurant owners to move all collapsible tents and portable heaters inside order to prevent damage and allow snow plows to move down roadways.
In the afternoon, workers at some restaurants were seen trying to dismantle outdoor dining set ups that they had only just completed – often at a great cost.
Doesn’t this sound like Papa Legault? He closes hair salons, restaurants, stores etc but allows thousands of people to cram into airports and airplanes, has zero checking for the veeerus upon arriving at our airport and tells them that if they don’t feel well, they better quarantine.
Spare us. Our nail salon looks like a plexiglass factory. No one is near anyone. Has Papa Legault even gone to one of those places? We’ll tell you. No he has not. Does he have any skin in the game? No he does not. He continues to receive his full salary while the little peeps have to close down. Dizguzting.
One of Papa Legault’s inner circle held a party at a bar last night. Denis Tardif represents the riding of Rivière-du-Loup–Témiscouata, most likely part of Papa Legault’s base. The bar in question is in Rivière-du-Loup, which is in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region.
Mr. Tardif withdrew from Legualt’s caucus. How about his fine? Please tell us how much that was? Oops. That was not in the article. Dr. Pepper anyone?
Here’s another good one. French Laundry, the very shmancy restaurant where Governor of California Gavin Newsom dined after telling the little people to stay home, received about $2.4 million in Covid relief funds. Clearly those who had an ‘in’ with the governor benefitted from knowing him. We think it’s time for Gavin Newsom to move on.
Update Today:The plot thickens in the Dominic Barton scandal. During a House Oversight Committee hearing today, corporate leaders from OxyContin-maker Purdue Pharma expressed contrition for their company’s role in fueling the opioid crisis. This of course took place under Barton’s watch.
“I still feel absolutely terrible that a product created to help, and has helped so many people, has also been associated with death and addiction,” David Sackler, a member of the family that owns Purdue.
Purdue is also party to a separate legal matter filed by thousands of U.S. counties, cities and localities against various drugmakers, pharmacies and drug distributors.
One of the Sackler family members said, “My heart breaks for the parents who have lost their children.” Stuff it. Our bet is that we won’t have to wait very long until Justin’s friend Barton’s name pops up. Let’s see what our air-head prime minister does then.
Good Shabbos We’ll talk…
