Our new Champlain bridge is six years old and it's already rusting, as you can see from the picture above. Not a sexy picture, but a real one. How, you are asking yourself, is this possible. Even for quebec this is a new low.
Let's start with the target life of the bridge which is 125 years because they supposedly used high-performance materials, galvanized steel etc. And it was a federal project. Which begs the question how is there visible erosion six years after opening?
There are a number of answers but we must start with the obvious question: Was improper sealant used at the joints? We will answer it for you. Yes. How do we know?
Because if proper sealants were used you would not have water ingress which is the unwanted entry of water through the outer shell of a bridge or foundation, or de-icing salts seeping into the sealants. Both accelerate corrosion.
Now for the kicker: While the bridge is a federal project, items for construction were sought everywhere. Now guess where the sealant came from? Groupe Lefebvre, a quebec subcontractor. Bada bing, bada boom.
This company was selected to supply and install the waterproofing membranes and systems using 'soprema' products specifically developed for this type of structure.
They were hired by the main contractor consortium to provide specialized waterproofing and sealant work.
Are we living groundhog day? Does no one learn from their mistakes? Does no one know you can't leave the wolf in the chicken coop?
There is not a shred of doubt that either Groupe Lefebvre used inferior sealants which has now resulted in a bridge rusting after six years. Or they are so incompetent that their workers didn't know how to use the product.
Either way, we are going to see quebec workermen on the bridge again. One has to hope a) they are not the original workers b) that someone taught them what to do and, c) they were able to grasp the instructions.

Now that he's mayor, reality is setting in and Mamdani has to figure out how to make good on all the fantasies he promised his adoring fans. Governor Hochul, who supported his bid for mayor, already told him that free buses are not happening. Really?
It seems that the money collected from buses and subways goes to pay for the infrastructure of New York. One has to wonder about those who voted for Mamdani.
Did it never occur to them what their tax money goes to pay for, things that they take for granted? Oh, like garbage collection, water filtration systems, police, firemen etc. Clearly not.
As for Mamdani's idea of government run grocery stores, just ask any Russian who lived in the Soviet Union on how well that worked out. Does anyone remember seeing the endless lines for bread? Did anyone ever see people clamoring to leave the US for Russia and their communist rule?
Here's a headline: Policies have consequences. If you defund the police, you are going to get more murders, more robberies, more carjackings, more gang related swarming of stores. How exactly is he going to deal with those issues if he cuts the number of police or replaces them with social workers?
It's not going to take very long before reality sets in and Mamdani's standing ovation society will realize that his promises were built on air. Let's see how long it takes for those who voted for free everything turn on Mamdani. Our guess is that it won't be a long wait.

What exactly is going on with the conservative party and the so called 'deflections'? Can it be that there is a revolt in the caucus? Or, is something else going on?
It's the latter. Thanks to some former conservatives who teamed up with some liberals, the public is being led to believe that Poilievre's leadership is being challenged. Think again.
For starters, Carney took a page right out of Legault's playbook: Look over there and not here. Did it ever occur to anyone that the conservative who crossed the floor did so on the exact day that the budget was being presented to Canadians?
Did it ever occur to anyone that Carney wants people's attention focused not on his budget, but on something else?
If it did not occur to you, now you know.
This is the oldest trick in the book and as Carney is a sneaky slimeball, he will do anything to make sure Canadians attention is not focused on his budget which has an even bigger deficit than Justin's.
There is no one waiting in the wings to replace Poilievre. Polls have been taken and show he is the only one who could possibly defeat Carney in a federal election. This is purely a liberal dirty trick.
And if you are thinking that Doug Ford is vying for Poilievre's position, think again. He is the king of his castle and there's no way he will become humpty dumpty and fall from that wall.
And while we're on the budget trail, chew on this one for a minute: Mark Carney's budget is set to include $54.6 million to "support the LGBTQ2S+ community" over the next five years.
That would be including $7.5 million to provide security for Pride parades.
Your tax dollars 'at work'.

Diana Carney is the first lady of Canada. She represents us at national and international events. Can this woman not put on a drop of makeup? Or fix herself up a bit?
Or, if she so hates the job, then don't show up. She literally looks like she just rolled out of bed and forgot to comb her hair.
You may say this is petty considering what's going on in the world, but we have learned that it's the small things in life that count. Like taking five minutes to realize you are the prime minister's wife and your picture will be taken.

How Montreal's bus strike is allowed to continue after a huge snowstorm is beyond comprehension. Are people running this city so detached from reality?
Our mayor elect Soraya Fernadez is threatening the mechanics and drivers that she will legislate them back to work. Oh my. They were up in arms. And where's the current idiot Plante? Gone. Checked out. Nobody has transportation? Eat cake.
So how to get the workers to go back? Simple solution. Fine every worker $1000 per day for every day they don't drive their buses. They are all on the books, they all get a pay check and from tomorrow on if they don't show up to work all day, this will be their reward.
Right now there are zero consequences for their behavior. There must be consequences for holding an entire city hostage. And we don't care what their beefs are. Buses are an essential service.
We'll talk...
